About Mimika
Hello, I’m Mimika (pronounced Mim-ee-kah like Paprika). Born and raised in South Africa, I’m a mom of 3, and still married to my childhood sweetheart 28 years later.
Life has been a roller coaster of lessons! The journey has been the most valuable part of learning to live life to it’s fullest.
Growing up in apartheid South Africa in the 1980’s taught me never to take anything for granted.
Over 20 years my husband and I have pursued entrepreneurship for our fight for freedom. We spent many years “bootstrapping” and scraping just to get by.
We thought it was a brilliant idea to immigrate not once, but twice in the span of 6 years! We had 3 kids along the journey, each born in a different country.
We learnt what it means to be humble, being willing to adapt and to trust the Lord completely. It’s been a wild ride, but I would not change a thing!
Fast forward 20 years and five businesses later, we have settled in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
Official Bio + Headshot
Mimika Cooney wrote her first book idea on a typewriter at the age of ten. It took her 40 years and 4 career changes to finally come back to her first love of writing.

A hopeless romantic, Mimika truly believes in happily ever afters. She has been married to her childhood sweetheart for 28 years. Together they share 3 children; 2 independent young adults and a witty teenager.
When she is not writing, or planning her next “writing research” travel trip; she will be found on the ice practicing her spins as an adult figure skater. She also enjoys stabbing people for fun (without getting arrested) as an amateur fencer.
