About Mimika

Hello, I’m Mimika (pronounced Mim-ee-kah like Paprika). Born and raised in South Africa, I’m a blessed mom of 3, and still married to my childhood sweetheart 26 years later.

Life has been a roller coaster of lessons! The journey has been the most valuable part of learning to live life to it’s fullest.

Growing up in apartheid South Africa taught me never to take anything for granted. My Greek serial entrepreneurial father was always pursuing the freedom of being his own boss.

Throughout our 20’s, my husband and I pursued entrepreneurship . We spent many years “bootstrapping” and scraping just to get by. Working full time and moonlighting as website designers meant our first few years of marriage demanded many sacrifices.

Our dream was for us to be in control of our own destinies, choosing the freedom of entrepreneurship for our family.

In the year 2000 we immigrated from South Africa to the UK in pursuit of a better life and more entrepreneurial freedom. We had our second baby and I started a brand new business in a foreign country – all at the same time. Crazy I know!

God in His graciousness taught us what it truly means to trust Him as our source.  We spent many years “skint” scraping our pennies together, while building our entrepreneurial dreams. We learnt to embrace change and the exciting opportunities it brings.

In 2006 while still in our 30’s, we immigrated once again to the USA to expand our opportunities. We re-started our two businesses and had another baby; all within the first 4 years.

We learnt what it means to be humble, being willing to adapt and to trust the Lord completely.

I’ll admit it though, it’s never been easy…

Being raised in a traumatic environment, all I knew was how to function with fear. When fear becomes your predominant mindset, it discolors your view of life.

The seeds of fear and rejection caused me to grow a tree of perfection, pride, performance and pursuit. The constant push to be liked, to be understood, and to be loved skewed the truth of how much God loves me without me having to do anything. At every opportunity I focused on the pursuit of perfection and people pleasing. Often to my own detriment as I would push myself beyond my limits to utter exhaustion.

For 12 years I pushed hard to make my portrait photography business successful. Employing staff, winning awards, writing books, speaking internationally and racking up my resume’ were my top priorities.

For many years I kept asking the wrong questions…

It started at the age of 4 where I would constantly ask why. Why doesn’t she like me? Why am I not good enough? Why am I going through this? Why do bad things happen to good people? Why are my prayers not being answered?

Then I moved onto asking what. What God am I supposed to do? What should I say to make them like me? What can I do to make this work? What choices should I make to be successful?

Then the revelation hit me when I was faced with a loss of a loved one and a child suffering with severe depression, that my life isn’t about me!

It caused me to question everything: my goals, my faith, my purpose.

Then I started asking God who. Who am I? Who should I love and pray for? Who can I encourage to find their breakthrough? Who is on Your heart today Lord? Who needs encouragement to be brave?

When we start asking the right questions, our eyes are opened and our heart becomes ready to receive. We become ready to be the hands and feet of God. When we take our eyes off ourselves, we stop people pleasing, pursuing perfection and being so hard on ourselves.

Once we move past the fear of failure (or success), we can get to work impacting those around us. When we start asking the right questions, we realize just how important we are in the eyes of God. We realize that it’s not about what we have done, but what God wants to do in and through us. We realize that it’s not about who we think we are, but about who God is. We are on an important mission for the Kingdom!

Are you asking the right questions?

For years I spent worrying, wondering and wandering. Even though I’ve known Jesus since the age of 10, it took many life struggles to really know Him. I’ll admit that I’m still a work in progress because perfection is a myth. I pray that each day God continues to soften my heart, so that I can be more like Jesus.

Contrary to what we see or perceive about someone, or hear via the grapevine, or perceive for ourselves; there is always more to someones story. I truly believe that stories have the power to break down barriers, offer freedom, and repair relationships.

When we really know someone, their heart and their motives; we truly see them. Being known, valued and seen is one of the most liberating feelings. The pain of being misunderstood is soul crushing, and can stop a heart from blooming.

There is power in your story!

My heart is for helping others find their joy, freedom, breakthrough and purpose. When we are brave enough to admit we need help, are willing to be growth minded, and become ready to share our story; we give others the strength, endurance and faith to keep pressing on.

This is why I’m so passionate about mentoring, speaking, writing, publishing books, and sharing testimonies of break through.

There is someone praying for a breakthrough and you are the answer to their prayers!
